To say that the end result is what counts is just not true. Especially in design. Rather, a good designer is more concerned with the process; that winding, potholed road he embarks upon every time he gets a new job.
“Manifesto.” is an ongoing project that leaves the final result to one side so as to focus on the creative process. It brings together under one roof the personal manifestos of some of today’s smartest and most renowned international designers.
Whilst some of these statements are very well known, others have been prepared exclusively for the project: some are programmatic pieces of writing, some are detailed work manuals, all are passionate tributes to graphic design, creativity and the design culture.
Curators
Tankboys are an independent graphic studio born in 2005 and based in Venice. Its founders are Lorenzo Mason and Marco Campardo. They graduated at the Venice’s Design Faculty of IUAV and they haven’t stopped working together ever since. Tankboys deal with arts and communication, focusing mainly on print and editorial projects. In 2008 they co-founded XYZ, a non-profit gallery for the applied arts (graphics, photography, design) based in Treviso. In 2009 they gave birth to the independent publishing house Automatic Books.
Cosimo Bizzarri is a writer. He’s been collaborating for various blogs, magazines, brands and organizations, both in Italy and internationally. Furthermore, he curated exhibitions, published short stories, articles and poems and made a documentary. From October 2005 until November 2008 he worked at Fabrica, Benetton’s communication research centre, first as a student and then as the coordinator of the Writing department. During his time at Fabrica he was also part of the Colors Magazine editorial team. Since 2008, he has also been a researcher at the Design Faculty of the University of San Marino, tutoring the students about brands and communication strategies.
